As our days get longer with Spring, Merlin, a 50# sulcata tortoise, seeks an outlet for his sexuality: breeding season is here! Just as with iguuanas, the sight of a tortoise penis could be cause for alarm.

Male iguanas, even blind male iguanas, are sexually active animals. This can lead to a pet who is "trolling" around his habitat looking for an outlet for his desire to mate. Sometimes an iguana will concede to using a towel. Below are photographs of Rex, a mostly blind iguana. Rex discovered this towel and since it had just held a female iguana, he mated with it.

Owners are surprised to see a reptile penis. In the iguana's case, he has 2 hemipenes. Shaped like a whale's tail, it is highly furrowed and a very dark liver color.

Above, Lawrence "mates" with an Ig Gear mating toy, while Cayo prefers the sweatshirt of his human!

Here, Lawrence started mating with a towel. Lal, the much larger iguana, jumped into the fray and soon took over!
