species: western ornate box turtle (T. o. ornata) sex: female estimated age: adult total length: 5 In January 2008, my hibernation was rudely interrupted when a new apartment complex project dug up my hibernaculum! My summer and winter homes were destroyed -- such is the terrible fate for many of us turtles. My shell was also damanged. I had a tough winter at CoRHS but am finally healthy again. My shell is healed but I can't regrow my beautiful pattern layer. I'm eating well and at least I am safe. I hope for a large outdoor enclosure and humans that will help me live a very long life! Please read about box turtle care. Box turtle requirements: a secure outdoor pen, minimum 6’ x 6’, and hibernation during winter. We do not adopt box turtles to live in small aquaria. Please visit our habitat requirements for this animal before submitting your application.
