You don't need a TON of experience to adopt from CoRHS... Just some basic knowledge and good intentions! What we look for in our adopters:
  • General knowledge of the species you are considering adopting. If you don't know everything, that's fine--a willingness to learn will get you a LONG way. We are here to help you!

  • A stable and loving environment for the animals. We want to know that they will be well cared for, and that the person will be willing to handle the day-to-day feeding, cleaning, and socialization.

  • The cost of caring for an animal, including all habitat needs, food, and vet visits if needed. Visit our habitat page for minimum requirements and recommended cage sizes.

  • Reptiles adopted from CoRHS are intended to be kept as family pets ONLY!! CoRHS Statement on Breeding.

  • You must be 18 years old or older to adopt from CoRHS. If you are younger than 18, please have your parent or guardian fill out the application.

To adopt an animal from CoRHS, fill out an adoption application, AND pay a $10.00 non-refundable application fee. If you do adopt from CoRHS, we will apply your application fee toward your adoption. Please follow the PayPal link to send your $10.00 fee to paypal@corhs.org (you may need to set up a free PayPal account). We CANNOT process your application without first receiving your fee.

Colorado Reptile Humane Society's adoption fee is $65.00 for tortoises, $55.00 for snakes, monitors, and box turtles; $45.00 for iguanas, other lizards, and amphibians. The adoption fee for aquatic turtles is waived for approved adopters. If airline shipping is required, the adopter is also responsible for all shipping costs, $120.00. For more information and shipping costs, click here.

We will not ship adopted animals using overnight carrier such as UPS or FedEx. Such shippers are not required to handle live animals differently than they would handle a box of rocks; injuries and fatalities are common using these shippers.

We are an all-volunteer organization and are working very hard to stay on top of all incoming adoption applications. Due to the large number received, it may take 5-7 business days to get a response from us. Please be patient. If you do not hear from us within two week's time, please email us a reminder -- we do experience computer glitches which sometimes "lose" applications. Our average time from application to adoption is approximately one month.
